Frequently Asked Questions About Home Remodeling

We provide services throughout North Seattle and its surrounding communities. Our primary service areas include:  

•  Cities: Seattle and Shoreline.
•  North Seattle Neighborhoods: Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford, Greenwood, and Green Lake.
•  Northeast Seattle Neighborhoods: Wedgwood, Lake City, Ravenna, and Laurelhurst.

We learn what your goals are so we can make sure it’s a project that’s a good fit for us and that we can do what you want done. Additionally, we will provide a ballpark cost based on past experience with similar projects. You will then decide if you want to move forward with us into a pre-construction assessment. 

During the construction phase we meet with clients weekly to assess how the project is going, trouble-shoot any problems, and to ensure that we’re on the same page. 

If you decide that you want to change the original plan, we will work out the additional cost of those changes through a change order. Or, if we discover unforeseen complications that add to the scope of work, we will request approval for adjustments to the project cost.

In either case, the cost of changes may include: the time required to plan and estimate the cost of the change, whether we have to undo work we’ve already done, the extra time it will take, additional cost of materials, and the cost of any changes to the schedule.  

We subcontract many aspects of the work to our trusted trade partners. Our relationships with many of our trade partners predate CBC’s founding.

CBC is responsible for their performance and payment. You are certainly welcome to communicate with our subcontractors but, to keep things simple, CBC manages their work so it’s clear who’s responsible for what.  

The short answer is yes. The longer answer is that, in this business, whoever provides something has responsibility for it. For instance, if you purchase a shower valve and something goes wrong with it, you pay extra for the plumber to come back and fix it. If the plumber provides the shower valve, they come back and fix it at no cost to you.

Essentially, you might save some money by purchasing things yourself, but by working through us to acquire them, you’re buying peace of mind if something goes wrong.  

We prefer to leave no questions for a later time, but if there are things that you aren’t ready to make specific choices about, we’ll put an “allowance” line in the estimate.
